Native American Homes Diorama

This hands-on extension project was designed to deepen students’ understanding of Indigenous peoples and regional Native American homes through creativity, inquiry, and experiential learning. After studying how geography, climate, and available resources influenced the homes different Native American groups built, students created detailed dioramas representing a selected home type. As part of the process, students visited our school’s nature trails to collect natural materials they could incorporate into their projects, helping connect classroom learning to the environment around them. Additional class build time and a variety of provided craft materials were intentionally included to promote equitable access and ensure all students had the opportunity to successfully participate regardless of available resources at home.
