Hello! I’m Miss Lutz, an elementary educator who cares deeply about creating a classroom where students feel seen, supported, and excited to learn. Since January, I have been serving as a long-term substitute in a fifth grade classroom, where I’ve taken on full teaching responsibilities and led instruction across all core subject areas. This experience has pushed me to grow quickly as an educator while building strong classroom systems and meaningful relationships with both students and families.

My teaching style blends structure with creativity and student-centered learning. I place a strong focus on routines and clear expectations, while also designing lessons that are engaging and hands-on. In math, I use inquiry-based routines, visual models, and consistent review to help students build confidence and retain strategies over time. In literacy and social studies, I focus on helping students build identity, intellect, and joy through meaningful texts, discussions, and writing that feels relevant to them. I regularly use formative assessments and student data to guide my instruction so I can meet students where they are and support their growth in a way that feels intentional and encouraging.

Before stepping into this role, I gained experience in a wide range of classrooms through my work at Saginaw Valley State University. I taught lessons across grade levels and content areas, supported small groups, and worked closely with students who needed additional help in reading and writing. These experiences built a strong foundation in differentiation that I now use every day in my classroom.

Some of my most meaningful growth has also come from experiences outside of school. At Tripp Lake Camp in Maine, I designed and taught pottery lessons, lived with campers, and created structured routines in a fast-paced environment. This helped me grow in classroom management, flexibility, and relationship building. My work at the Greater Midland Community Center also strengthened my ability to connect with families and manage high-energy groups while keeping things positive and organized.

At the center of everything I do is a focus on relationships, equity, and student growth. I want my classroom to be a place where students feel valued, challenged, and confident in who they are. I believe in building on student strengths, creating a strong sense of belonging, and making learning feel meaningful. Teaching is the work that matters most to me, and I’m excited to keep growing and making a real impact in my students’ lives.
